MARION COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A company that produces processed foods will expand operations in Marion County and bring 56 new jobs to the area, officials say.

According to a press release from the SC Department of Commerce, SOPAKCO will invest $4.5 million to install a fitment line pouch that will produce a variety of different food snack items at the Mullins headquarters located on 118 South Cypress Street. "SOPAKCO is pleased and excited to be able to expand our operational capabilities here at our Mullins facility, and at the same time, create a number of much needed jobs here in our county,” said SOPAKCO President, Lonnie Thompson.

A $200,000 Rural Infrastructure Fund grant has been approved to the county by the Coordinating Council for Economic Development. The funds will help with costs of property improvements related to the project, officials say.

In June of 2014, SOPAKCO announced a previous expansion in SC that created 120 new jobs. The expansion was a $4.35 million investment, officials say. "The fact that SOPAKCO has decided to expand in Marion County for the second time in just seven months proves that South Carolina is a perfect place to do business,” stated Governor Nikki Haley.

The processed food company is partnering with readySC to recruit and train for new job opportunities. If you are interested in any of the new positions at SOPAKCO click here

Founded in Tennessee, the company has been producing processed foods for more than 60 years, beginning with creating meals for the U.S. military and the world.
