MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a breakfast meeting with leaders from a potential Israeli sister city Monday.

City leaders were able to meet the mayor and deputy mayor from the city of Tiberias, Israel.

The city is located directly on the Sea of Galilee, which is in Northeastern Israel.

Both mayors are in town for a few days to learn more about the community and to meet people who live here.

Like Myrtle Beach, Tiberias is a coastal tourism city.

“We are establishing a connection between people, between commercial,” said Joseph Ben David, mayor of Tiberias. “We build a bridge but before the money, before the business, there is a people to people, a bond we should build."

The City of Myrtle Beach and Coastal Carolina University also hosted the event.

This is just one of several gatherings planned with the visitors.
