Dozens march down Ocean Boulevard for Brittanee Drexel

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Wearing a special shirt and getting a lot of hugs, Brittanee Drexel's mom prepared to make the same walk her daughter made just six years ago.

"Britt probably walked this fast, I wouldn't doubt it," said Dawn Drexel as she was just starting the nearly two-mile walk.

The walk down Ocean Boulevard comes with a different purpose though. The purpose was to bring Brittanee home.

The 17-year-old went missing in 2009 when she came to the area to visit. The last time anyone saw her was when she made this same walk from the Bar Harbor Hotel to the Blue Water Resort.

"I was yelling six years too long,” said Robin Holley, a family friend of the Drexels. “Somebody on that same walk could have been out there today just looking for their victim."

"I think it's very important because it may jog somebody's memory, they may have seen something the night she went missing,” said Dawn Drexel.

While Saturday night's walk came to an end, the search for Brittanee Drexel did not.

Drexel's friends and family kept things going after the walk with a vigil. They lit candles and watched a short video with pictures of Brittanee. A local pastor also said a short prayer about the search for Drexel.

While the answer these people are searching for hasn't come, just about everyone could agree on one thing.

"Somebody somewhere knows what happened to Brittanee Drexel and they need to come forward,” demanded Holley.

In the weeks to come Drexel's family hopes tonight's walk makes that happen. Until then, they'll keep searching and hoping that soon Brittanee returns home.

    Florence County Sheriff deputies were responding to an assault call Friday when they discovered a victim that had been stabbed. The incident occurred on Palomar Parkway in Florence. Investigators discovered a verbal dispute had resulted in the victim being assaulted and stabbed.
