CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - The Horry County Solicitor dismissed charges against a man convicted of two counts of murder in 2008 for a 2005 double murder, and who was released on bond in 2013 pending a retrial after new evidence became available.

Solicitor Jimmy Richardson says at this time, there is not enough evidence to take the case against Richard Gagnon forward. He was convicted of the murders, but was then granted a retrial and released on bond in in 2013 after new DNA evidence was a match for another man.

This major case involving the murder of a Conway couple resurfaced inside an Horry County Courthouse with the new DNA evidence. Before that, Gagnon was serving two life sentences, but claiming he was not involved in the shooting deaths of Diane and Charles Parker Sr., who were found dead in their home off of SC 90 on April 12, 2005.

Gagnon was released on bond in 2013 on the condition that he stayed in town, and checked in with his pastor, who stood up as a reference, and his attorney.

Solicitor Richardson says he could charge Gagnon again in the future, but at this time, he doesn't have enough evidence to take the case forward.
