Florence school district teams with sheriff's office for emergency preparedness

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Nearly 50 frontline administrators from the Florence School District One will take part in a training session for emergency preparedness Thursday.

“If we had to evacuate a school due to a HAZMAT situation, this [type of training] will provide [staff] an opportunity to see the response from law enforcement,” said Lionel Brown, assistant superintendent.

Brown said he expects the interactive, hands-on training to last throughout the day.

“The training event provides us to see the other side of the fence,” said Brown. “And an opportunity to see what [the FCSO] does in providing safety for us on a daily basis.”

The event will be held at the LeSane Training Center on Pound Road, which is located near the Florence County Detention Center.

Brown said the district has had a long, enduring relationship with the sheriff's office and is appreciative of the cooperative and supportive efforts made by the agency.

Florence School District One serves about 17,000 students.
