Carolina Forest brush fire under control, fire chief says

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A brush fire burned about 10 to 12 acres of land behind Gander Mountain on Highway 501 in Carolina Forest on Wednesday, said Horry County Fire Chief Fred Crosby.

More than 30 firefighters and seven engines were utilized to keep the blaze away from buildings and deemed the fire under control at around 4:30 p.m.

Crosby said the keeping the fire away from structures was the biggest concern.

"First priority is that the buildings don't burn up," he added.

Currently, fire conditions are pretty high with the decent amount of wind and low humidity.

The National Forestry Department will determine the cause.
