Highway 17 North, South reopened after gas leak

Highway 17 North and South are closed due to a gas leak at White Point Road Wednesday, according to the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety. NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Highway 17 North and South were closed mid-day Wednesday due to a gas leak at White Point Road Wednesday, according to the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety.

Public Safety officials sent an alert Wednesday morning suggesting that everyone avoid the area. According NMB spokesperson, Patrick Dowling, a commercial natural gas line was cut in the area. 

At about 1 p.m., officials announced that the leak had been repaired, and Highway 17 was reopened in both directions.
