FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Highway 378 and Highway 76 are among the roads in Florence County that will be improved by the South Carolina Department of Transportation in the coming months.

Work has started on Highway 378's two-lane bridge over the Lynches River, according to project manager Scott Ward. Once the project is complete, it will be a four-lane bridge. The project is currently in its first stage, with work focused on the southbound lane. Eventually, traffic will need to be switched over to allow for work on the northbound lane.

SCDOT is also planning on expanding Highway 76's two-lane bridge into a four-lane bridge, according to project manager Jamie Postman. Crews have started pouring the foundation for the bridge columns. They are in the second month of th project, and in another two months, they will be able to switch traffic from the old bridge to the new one. After this bridge is complete, they will get started on turning it into a four-lane roadway with a median.
