HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - One person is dead after a fatal motor vehicle accident on Highway 17 and Cypress Avenue Saturday.

Horry County Coroner Robert Edge identified the deceased victim as Jackulin Cataldi, 57. Edge said Cataldi died at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center from head injuries sustained in the accident.

According to Corporal Sonny Collins with the SC Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle accident occurred around 7:40 p.m. in Garden City. A 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling north on Highway 17, and a 2006 Mercury was turning onto the highway from Cypress Avenue, officials say. According to Corporal Collins, the Mercury failed to yield the right of way, causing the motorcycle rider to lay the motorcycle down.

Officials say an operator and a passenger occupied the motorcycle, and they were both taken to a local hospital. According to the SCHP, neither the driver nor passenger were wearing helmets. The passenger of the motorcycle died as a result of the accident, officials say.

Anita Young, the driver of the Mercury, was charged with failure to yield the right of way, according to SCHP officials.

The two vehicles did not make contact in this accident, officials say.
