GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – One person was injured in a large, three-alarm fire at a house in the North Litchfield area Wednesday night.

Midway Fire Rescue responded to the fire shortly after the call came in at about 9:51 p.m. A three-story single-family raised beach house was fully involved in fire, and there were initial reports of explosions, according to Midway Fire Chief Doug Eggiman.

A husband, wife, and their dog were in the home, and all made it out safely. The woman did suffer fire-related injuries, and was taken to a nearby hospital, Chief Eggiman said.

Fire crews evacuated people from the house next door, because the side of the home was smoking.

The fire was a challenge because it was so large, Eggiman said, and because crews were dealing with beach wind. The structure fire was knocked down early Thursday morning.

“The couple was very fortunate to be alive and it was an outstanding effort by all to eliminate the damage,” Chief Eggiman said.

Mutual aid was provided at the scene by Georgetown City Fire and EMS, Garden City Fire, Surfside Beach Fire, and Horry County Fire Rescue.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Chief Eggiman said.
