GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The Georgetown County Public Services Department will accept unwanted paint, batteries, pesticides, fertilizers and other hazardous household materials.
The collection will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Midway Fire Rescue.
"These events are a matter of convenience for residents, but for us, it's not only an opportunity to make sure these materials are being handled the right way, but to share our message and talk to people about recycling and storm water, and why they should be concerned about these things," said Tracy Jones, storm water division manager.
The Public Services Department and its Storm water Division hold collection events every spring and fall on the Waccamaw Neck to help make safe disposal easier for residents.
The last event brought in about three tons of hazardous household materials. The goal is to have that number drop as residents clear out old materials, and become better educated on how to properly dispose items.
Midway Fire Rescue is located at 67 St. Paul Place in Georgetown County.
