MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Grand Strand Medical Center has announced it is no longer diverting patients Thursday evening.

Wednesday, the hospital was diverting patients to other medical centers “to uphold its commitment to take care of the patients they do have.”

The medical center is full, said Julie Kopnicky, GSMC spokesperson, on Wednesday.

"We are diverting everything medical and anything trauma stroke or stemi. We are asking EMS to call before and evaluating on a case-by-case basis -- maintaining constant communications with EMS," Kopnicky said. "We are upholding our commitment to take care of the patients we have in the hospital and those in the community who need our special services," she added on Wednesday.

The hospital offers the only cardiac surgery program in Horry and Georgetown counties and is a designated Level II trauma center by DHEC and the American College of Surgeons, according to its website.
