Networking event to host hundreds of business professionals in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A Grand Strand chapter of Business Network International, focused on networking and marketing, has amassed $30 million in 15 years between all the participating businesses.

Thursday, an event will be held for all the chapters in the Grand Strand for one massive networking opportunity. It will be from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Myrtle Beach. Any business owners interested in becoming part of the networking chapter are welcome to attend.

"What's important for a small business to know is that you're marketing towards the general public, but it's also good to network with other businesses,” says Frank Espinal, the owner of ShipOnSite and participating chapter member. “That's one of the main things that BNI offers to the business owner, is an opportunity to network with other businesses in the area."

Each chapter has a list of member businesses. But as members, you also have access to other chapters across the country and the world. If there's a need for a certain service or product that perhaps isn't in your chapter, you can locate it through the network.

BNI is a national networking organization. It's all about referral marketing. The people in the chapter are like your sales team, providing references and resources for vendors.

"One of the principles that drives the organization is Givers Gain philosophy. We give new business, you give us business. That's one of the core principles with BNI, and it seems to be working for our chapter as well as the organization as a whole,” says Espinal.

The Surfside chapter is actually the biggest chapter in the states of South Carolina and Georgia. According to the BNI's website, their members increase their business, on average, 20 percent in the first year.

There is an annual membership fee. The leaders of the chapter will be able to help you with the application process.
