Florence man arrested for numerous robberies

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – Police arrested a man who may be responsible for numerous break-ins, burglaries and attempted robberies on February 15.

According to Florence County Police Department, Dennis Ashby, 40, is responsible for hundreds of dollars in damages. Ashby broke into different businesses and stole donation boxes and tip jars from January 31 to February 15, authorities say.

Authorities believe that Ashby is responsible for the following incidents: 

  • January 31: Went to the counter and stole the donation bucket at the Phoenix Mart on Irby.
  • February 3: Went inside of Zapata's and stole the candy jar. 
  • February 5: Went to Margaritas on 2nd loop and threw a lawn mower blade through the window and grabbed the candy jar
  • February 10: Went to 1225 Celebration BLVD and threw a concrete block through the window and stole a candy machine with $150 inside.
  • February 11: Went to Hong Kong on 2600 S Irby St and threw a brick through the window and stole a 2nd candy machine.
  • February 12: Went to China King on North Cashua and threw a cylinder block through the window and stole two gumball machines and the tip jar.
  • February 12: Went back to Zapata's and tried to steal the candy jar after breaking the window, but the alarm went off and he ran.
  • February 15: Went inside of Wendy's on Irby and walked up to the counter and grabbed the donation box and ran.
  • February 15: Went to Goody's on Palmetto and stole change from the leukemia donation box. 

Police obtained multiple warrants for his arrest after seeing him on video at these places committing the crimes. He was pulled over and arrested after police saw him driving down the road.

    ROBESON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Four people were shot — and one seriously injured — following an argument near the Sundew gas station in Robeson County late Saturday night, according to Chief Kenneth Sealey. The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday. All persons were sent to the hospital and treated for their injuries.     MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The National Weather Service has issued a rip current advisory for Horry county until 8 o'clock Sunday evening.  For the full report click here. The statement issued Sunday warns of all "eastern facing beaches in northern Horry".
