MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – An aircraft had to make an unexpected landing at MYR early Sunday morning after departing from Toronto.
According to a media spokesperson with WestJet, the Boeing 737-700 aircraft left Toronto with a full load of 136 guests when it encountered a mechanical issue. Out of an abundance of caution, the plane was diverted to MYR.
WestJet has decided to put the guests on coaches to Orlando International Airport in order to get them to their final destination as quickly as possible, since the aircraft cannot continue its journey and will need to be inspected.
Spokesperson Robert Palmer from WestJet said in an e-mail to WMBF News, "We apologize to our guests for the inconvenience. However, safety is our top priority and we will not compromise it for any reason. Our guests expect nothing less."
No injuries have been reported at this time.
