At least one dead after crash in Georgetown County

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – At least one person is dead after an accident in Georgetown County near Hemingway early Sunday morning.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol the crash happened around 12:35 a.m. on SC 261, also known as Choppee Road.

Sgt. Bob Beres confirmed that a 2005 Ford SUV was traveling West on Choppee Road when it hit a 1996 Ford SUV head-on. 

The driver of the 1996 Ford died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash and the driver of the 2005 Ford was airlifted to Grand Strand Hospital.

The name of the deceased has not been released at this time. The driver of the 2005 Ford SUV was wearing a seat belt.

SCHP is investigating this collision.
