Petition created after man severely bites woman's face

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A petition has been created after a man reportedly bit a woman's face in Murrells Inlet.

Christopher Brian Campbell, 39, was charged with one count of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, according to the Horry County Police Department.

After attending a function at Sandy Monkey Bar and Grill, Michelle Messer said she was attacked by Campbell, her ex-boyfriend. Messer said she had no idea Campbell would also be attending.

When Messer went to her vehicle in the parking lot, she said Campbell began beating her. Then, Messer said Campbell bit a piece of her nose off. Messer said Campbell told her he would have to kill her "so no one knew what he had done."

Miraculously, Messer was able to open her car door to escape. She said she fell unconscious after only a few steps.

When police arrived Campbell was arrested and taken to jail.

Messer was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

She said she will have to undergo reconstructive surgery.

Since the incident, a petition was created to upgrade the charges of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature to first-degree attempted murder.

"I want to go global with this until something is done about this," Messer said.

More than 1,000 signatures support the cause, and 300 are needed, according to the

Once enough supporters are documented, Messer plans to send the campaign to local, state and national leaders:

Senator Tim Scott

Senator Lindsey Graham

State Senator Ray Cleary

Governor Nikki Haley

State Representative Nelson Hardwick

Representative Tom Rice

Representative Mark Sanford

Saundra Rhodes - Chief Horry County Police Department

15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson
