NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Valentine's Day will have a lot of you heading out for a romantic dinner this weekend or maybe, if you're single, you'll just be looking for some fast food to go.
This week WMBF News followed-up on DHEC's inspections in the North Strand. One restaurant, not much to be found, but at the other, inspectors say they found a little too much, including some creepy crawlers.
John Graft and his buddy are snowbirds from up North. John has a place in North Myrtle so he frequents the area. When he's in town, he also makes once-a-week stops into Burger-Fi, which took him by surprise.
"We're not fast food people very much, my wife loves to cook, but this place has a very very good meal," Graft said. "The meat is really clean tasting, very good," he added.
It's not just clean tasting, but really just clean in general. "That's one of the biggest things is keeping a place clean and this is immaculate every time I've been here," Graft said.
The Department of Health agreed, scoring Burger-Fi a 98 in its most recent inspection.
Now if you take a drive, south of Burger Fi, you'll pass Bennett's Calabash Seafood Buffet.
The buffet is known for its seafood, but that's not all DHEC says it found. Inspectors handed out a violation for roaches and bugs.
That's one of about ten violations the restaurant received, four were corrected on the spot. One of those was keeping food at the wrong temperature, that includes the staples, seafood and steaks.
The restaurant scored a B, an 86, and a follow up from the Department of Health.
