HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Drivers were stalled Thursday along Highway 17 in a construction zone near the backgate.
Southbound lanes were stacked with traffic just after 12 p.m.
Slowdowns began just south of "Jammin Leather" and stretched passed the Harrelson Boulevard overpass.
Southbound lanes have been reduced to one lane, as construction crews closed the right lane of the bypass at the Port Drive entrance.
"They must have been working on the excel lane at the Port Drive entrance and possibly doing asphalt since the temperatures were warm today, but I was not given a notice," Public Information Director Lisa Bourcier said.
