DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) –A Darlington County deputy has been taken to the hospital after the sheriff said she swerved to miss an oncoming vehicle and struck a building.
The accident happened at around 6:30 p.m., said Sheriff Wayne Byrd.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol has opened an investigation.
The deputy hit Byrd's Hardware store in North Hartsville.
A car reportedly pulled out in front of the Darlington County deputy and kept driving, Byrd said.
Witnesses stated that the deputy was traveling on North Fifth Street when a white vehicle crossed into the lane in which the deputy was traveling, Byrd said.
