PAWLEY'S ISLAND, SC (WMBF) – The Lakes at Litchfield is having its annual scholarship which is open to high school seniors who plan to graduate in 2015.

The Silver Pen Writing Competition was created to bridge the gap between generations, and to explore the younger generation's relationship with aging. The scholarship will give away $3,750 in cash prizes for future college expenses to local high school seniors who live within 25-miles of Pawley's Island.

“There's no doubt that we can do a better job of educating our children and young adults about important topics related to aging in America,” Executive Director Marcel Tremble said. “The goal of The Silver Pen is to get young adults interested in the process of aging so that we can foster a culture of mutual understanding and respect for the aged in our society.”

Topic: Do you think that it is easier to innovate now with all of the technological advancements? Or, do you think it was easier to innovate without modern advancements and thinking?

Prizes in the competition go up to $1,500. The competition will be judged by members of the Lakes at Litchfield's Resident Advisory council made up of retired educators, community leaders, and business professionals.

Entry deadline is Sunday, February, 15, 2015.
