Suspect says 'God's will' led him to rob local convenience store

One man has been arrested after robbing a convenience store. One man has been arrested after robbing a convenience store.

MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) - One man has been arrested after robbing a convenience store and saying that it was “God's will.”

Horry County Police Department officers responded to the Scotchman convenience store located at 940 Inlet Square Drive, at around 6 p.m., Monday. According to HCPD, the store clerk reported that a man waited for customers to leave, approached the clerk at the counter and asked for the money by saying, “I need all of your money. It's God's will that I take all your money and go to prison.”

Police say the subject then took the money, stepped outside, waited for law enforcement to arrive, and immediately surrendered. The man is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center. His identity will be revealed when formal charges are pressed, according to HCPD.

No one was hurt during the incident. All money was recovered and returned to the victim.
