Karate World of Surfside Beach to host free first-aid seminar

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A free first-aid seminar is being held in Surfside Beach.

The event is scheduled Saturday, February 14 at 2:15 p.m. at Karate World of Surfside Beach, according to a press release issued by Karate World.

Myrtle Beach Fire Battalion Chief Tom Gwyer will be at Karate World of Surfside Beach teaching the seminar. He has been with Myrtle Beach fire for 22 years, has been a national registry paramedic for 18 years, instructor for South Carolina Fire Academy & American Heart Association, taught EMT classes for 5 years at Horry Georgetown Technical College, has received several lifesaving awards and has authored 4 research projects published by FEMA.

The seminar will be held at Karate World, 720 Business Hwy 17 North.

    A South Carolina Department of Transportation contractor was injured Monday morning after a tractor the worker was driving was struck by a vehicle on Highway 31, according to Pete Poore with the SCDOT. Poore confirms the contractor was cutting grass.

    A second suspect was arrested last week in connection to the deadly May 25 shooting at the Koyote Saloon, according to Cpt. John Harrelson with the Horry County Police Department. Joey Lee Henry, 30, of Green Sea, is charged with murder.
