CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) – Coastal Carolina basketball continued its turnaround this week with a second straight home win, and a second win over High Point this season thanks to a comeback effort that resulted in a 65-60 final.
CCU went through two separate four minute scoring droughts in the first half, but High Point when more than seven minutes without a field goal in the second half as the Chants made their comeback.
Warren Gillis paced CCU with 17 points, while Elijah Wilson added 11. Eight different Chanticleers also had a minimum of three rebounds.
The win improves CCU to 17-7 this year and 8-4 in conference. The loss drops High Point to those identical records. Right now, the Chants are in a seven-way tie for first in the conference race, with UNC Asheville, Radford, Gardner-Webb, Charleston Southern and Winthrop all with similar 8-4 marks. Coastal only has two remaining matchups against those seven teams.
The team is back in action on Wednesday with a visit to Charleston Southern. Tipoff will be at 7:30.
