MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A Myrtle Beach native and Socastee High School graduate was recognized recently by the Air Force Space Command Chief for her out-of-this-world work at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

Staff Sgt. Dena M. Forbes provides training for the 21 certified members of the Cape Canaveral Area Surveillance Control Team, according to the recent Facebook post recognizing Forbes by AF Space Command Chief Douglas McIntyre. The team ensures the sea and air space around Cape Canaveral are clear of all traffic to ensure launch safety.

She holds and trains four different launch-ready positions to ensure the safety of Defense Department and commercial space launches, the post states.

Forbes claims to have “the best job in Air Force Space Command.”

Forbes has finished her master's degree, and devotes much of her time to mentoring her “little” in the Orlando Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.
