HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A former Horry County Police officer was arrested for DUI Wednesday morning, county spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier confirmed. Buddy Ladd Kalin's employment with Horry County Police ended Wednesday afternoon, said Bourcier.
Kalin, 54, was arrested by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center Wednesday at 3:23 a.m. He was charged with driving under the influence. He was released at 10:27 a.m.
Kalin was found near a business, on Highway 9, in the driver's seat with the vehicle running, according to a South Carolina Highway Patrol report.
According to the report, in reference to Kalin's arrest, the officer stated, "I could smell a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath (sic) and his speech was slurred and eyes were glassy and blood shot."
The report states Kalin refused opportunities to take a field sobriety test and give an alcohol breath sample.
Bourcier said Kalin was assigned to the Airport Police and was hired on June 16, 2014.
This is the second Horry County Police officer to be arrested in as many weeks. On Wednesday, January 28, Bradley Everett Boggs was arrested after fleeing from a traffic stop near Murrells Inlet.
