MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Three Horry County Schools, Forestbrook Middle School, Myrtle Beach Intermediate School, and Lakewood Elementary School, are among five schools nominated by the South Carolina Department of Education to join the community of National Blue Ribbon Schools. All three schools are being nominated as Exemplary High Performing Schools.

An Exemplary High Performing School requires ranking in the top 15 percent of all schools in the state for both reading and mathematics based on specific progress groups over the past five years, according to a news release from the US Department of Education.

The 2015 National Blue Ribbon Schools will be announced by the United States Secretary of Education September, 2015.

The principals and teachers from the winning schools will be invited to attend the recognition ceremony in Washington, D.C. in November.
