CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - City leaders met to discuss a proposal that would ban smoking in parts of Conway.
The purpose of the workshop was to hammer out any differences that council may have on the original proposed workplace ban ordinance, said Mayor Alys Lawson.
The majority of council members said they wanted to limit the enforcement of the ban to city-owned parks and city-owned buildings.
Specifically, the workplace portion was removed from the proposal, which means employees whose employers allow smoking will not be affected by the ban, if passed.
A new portion of the ordinance will address parks.
The council all agreed on a parks ordinance and are passionate about prohibiting smoking in all city owned parks.
In the next meeting, a second reading will be discussed regarding the workplace ordinance.
