FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - The Florence Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred at a local credit union.

"As the Manager was about to close the door for the evening as she got to the door an individual came rushing in,” said Major Carlos Raines with City of Florence Police.

The Florence DuPont Federal Credit Union was robbed on Friday, according to Major Raines with the Florence PD. Major Raines said the suspect was armed with a gun.

“At the time there were two employees and one customer other than being pretty scared there were no injuries”

The robber instructed the customer to sit down and told the customer he was robbing the business.

The suspect demanded all of the money and the clerk obliged, according to Raines.

The suspect fled and ran across South Cashua Drive. The robber is described as a stocky black male who is 230 to 240 pounds.

“He made his exit from the building and started walking eastward toward King Avenue. Shortly after he went out of camera view a vehicle backed out of a parking space.”

Police are also looking for owner of a 2002 Honda Civic,  two door, gray or silver in color  to see if  that person knows anything about the robbery.

When the unimaginable happens, one South Carolina school is leading the way to help victims of mass violence. We’re not just talking about active shooter situations like the one in Las Vegas last year that left 58 people dead and hundreds more hurt. Its work will also focus on incidents like the truck attack in New York City that killed eight and injured a dozen others.

The Heather Lakes neighborhood in Little River could possibly see the addition of hundreds of new homes in the near future. Last week, Horry County Council passed the first reading of an ordinance that would rezone the land, allowing developers to add the homes to where the now closed Heather Glen Golf Course currently sits.
