Purse-snatching suspect turns himself in, police say

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A suspect turned himself in to police after snatching a purse from a 65-year-old woman in the PetSmart parking lot Thursday evening.

Horry County Police officers responded to a report of a strong armed robbery the 1300 block of South Commons Drive in Myrtle Beach at about 6:30 p.m.

A woman reported that as she was walking to her car with two cats in her hand, an unknown man grabbed her and tore her purse from her hands, according to a news release from HCPD. She was dragged along the ground and her purse strap broke before the suspect got the purse and fled the scene, the police report states.

The suspect was seen getting into a vehicle and getting away by several witnesses, and HCPD issued a look-out for the suspect and vehicle.

The suspect was picked up by a family member, and surrendered to police Thursday night. He is in custody at J. Reuben Long Detention Center, and will be identified after he is formally charged.
