South Carolina Tea Party Coalition Convention builds excitement through speakers and social media

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) The people checking out the 2016 South Carolina Tea Party Convention are anticipating possible 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump's arrival.

The business Mogul and reality show producer will address a large crowd on Monday afternoon. Trump is expected address the crowd at 3:30 p.m. at the Springmaid Beach Resort in Myrtle Beach. And new this year, Tea Party members have are teaching convention goers how to share the party's views through social media. A seminar was given over the weekend, on operating sites like Facebook and Twitter.

"We need people make sure that they understand social media. In the years past we feel that people didn't have an understanding of how a lot of people are now going to their cell phones and keeping up with the news," Gerri McDaniel, SC Tea Party Coalition said.

More than 1,200 people packed the house convention, and many others have been watching online at the Tea Party Coalition Convention website. The website streams the event live.

Party leaders said people in other countries are also live streaming the event.

Members say this new found interest is a direct result of a change in how people see the party.“There is a rebound acceptance of what the tea part is all about. We have people coming in saying we never knew this is what you guys are all about…It's because there has been so much bad stuff in the media about us. They understand that we are just really concerned about the direction that our country is going. And we want to make that we get it set back in the right direction,” McDaniel, said.
