CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - Southern Hog Slayers has been chosen to be on The Search-Hunting for the Dream.

Southern Hog Slayers is a local company in Conway, SC. They are a company of avid hog hunters who offer hog removal, and guided hog hunts along the coast of the Carolina's. Southern Hog Slayers is a family owned and operated business with over 40 years of combined hog slaying experience.

Kenneth Lee, owner of Southern Hog Slayers, believes wild hogs is a growing problem, that is costly.

"When you see the hogs move in {field} like that, 15 -20 hogs they can root up eight to 10 acres of crops," said Lee. " I've seen 20 acres of corn flattened in just a matter of a few days and they can't harvest any of it," he said.

The wild hogs have no natural predators and they are reproducing fast. They create obstruction for farmers and golfers.

Lee said, "I've been on some golf courses this year and got some; and a lot of it is this area is still building up. I mean, we're taking up what would be habitat for them and they're multiplying at a high rate."

Recently the hunters sent in video footage to the TV show, The Search-Hunting for the Dream, and they were one of the eight teams chosen from across the nation to compete in this show. Each team has a short period on each episode of the hunts that they have completed, and America votes for the winner of the show. The winner will win their own TV Show to be aired in 2016. The Search-Hunting for the Dream airs on The Pursuit Channel.

Southern Hog Slayers has already been aired in one episode in which they took a veteran out on his first hog hunt and they were successfully able to get him five hogs. Lee said Southern Hog Slayers participates in the Wounded Warrior Project where they take veterans on hunts in the area. "We have one warrior hunt coming up in February. We do a lot with them, and any wounded warrior. We work with several different programs to get them out in the woods, if any way possible," added Lee.

All animals harvested are put to use, with the participation in the Hunters for the Hungry. "Last year through our church, Mercy Baptist Church, we gave away 800 pounds of processed meat; that was deer and pork so all of it goes to a good cause. We don't kill anything and just let it lay. We don't waste anything," explained Lee.

Lee said he wants to see the reality show give exposure to the Grand Strand. He added, "Most of my repeat customers end up coming back for a family vacation. Instead of coming for a couple days to hunt, they end up staying three or four days. Of course, that helps the economy here locally."

Southern Hog Slayers is asking for everyone's help in making their dreams come true of being able to have their own Hunting TV Show. They need your vote! You can vote for Team Southern Hog Slayers directly at votethesearch.com. Tune into to The Pursuit Channel to check out Southern Hog Slayers in action.

Several people who live on the side streets of Ocean Blvd. in North Myrtle Beach recently received a letter saying they need to get rid of obstructions in front of their homes. The city says that’s because the space could be used for public parking. Around 30 people came out to the city council meeting on Monday to speak out about the issue.
