DARLINGTON, S.C. (WMBF) - West Florence alum John Jones is heading back to the Pee Dee to be named the new head coach at Darlington High School, the school announced on Thursday. Jones leaves his post as head coach at Sumter to come over for the job.
Jones was with Sumter for two seasons. He spent 2013 as offensive coordinator, and last year was promoted to head coach, where he won seven games and took the Fighting Gamecocks to the postseason. Prior to that he had also spent three years as an aassistantat his alma mater West Florence High School.
He replaces Will Lampkin, who resigned as Darlington head coach at the end of the season for personal reasons. Last year the Falcons went 5-5 and missed the playoffs. The Falcons' last postseason appearance was in 2013, when the team went 6-5.
Jones will begin coaching duties immediately, and begin teach at the school next fall.
