HEMINGWAY, SC (WMBF) - Ethan Hechler might just be a freshman at Carver's Bay High School, but he has a focus and determination well beyond his years.
"Mostly I try to surround myself around positive people and people who are heading in the right direction," said the young man.
Ethan says while in high school he plans to accomplish a lot. He's currently in ROTC, football, lifts weights after school and takes three honors classes where he has mostly As.
"I like to classify myself as in between a geek and a jock," he said.
Working hard is how he says he has accomplished so much in so little time. It's a trait he says he has learned from his father.
"I don't believe I've seen anyone that works as hard as he does. He works in the mill and always works overtime. Sometimes he doesn't come home until 8 o'clock," said Ethan, who plans to one day go to college and major in aerospace engineering.
Although Ethan still has three more years to go, he's an example of a student others can admire.
"The people who tell you you can't pass this test or you're not smart enough, just tune it out. If you believe in yourself you can do anything you want to."
