Florence Fire Department fights two weekend fires

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – Florence Firefighters fought two residential fires on Saturday and Sunday.

First, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the roof of a home in the 1300 block of Edgewood Avenue around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The resident was safely out of the home. Firefighters took a hose line through the front door, where they found smoke and high temperatures. The fire was found and extinguished. There was fire and smoke damage to the home. The fire was unintentional but what caused the fire has not been determined. No one was hurt

Firefighters responded to a fire on the 600 block of West. Sumter Street, Sunday, at 4:45 a.m. Heavy fire was found coming from the front and side of the home. Neighbors believed that residents were inside.

According to officials from the fire department, firefighters conducted a primary search of the home and did not find anyone. Another crew extinguished the fire and several other crews searched the home and did not find anyone. The occupants were not in the home. There were no injuries but the home was damaged by fire. This fire is under investigation, but is not suspicious.

Florence firefighters were assisted by the Florence Police Department and Florence County EMS for both fires. The American Red Cross was requested to assist the families.

    Several people who live on the side streets of Ocean Blvd. in North Myrtle Beach recently received a letter saying they need to get rid of obstructions in front of their homes. The city says that’s because the space could be used for public parking. Around 30 people came out to the city council meeting on Monday to speak out about the issue.
