HCPD makes arrest in Longs armed robbery

The suspect is believed to be a black male, aged 35-45 years old, approximately 6'00", 160-170 pounds, with tattoos around the eyes, and beard and mustache, according to police. LONGS, SC (WMBF) – A Loris man has been charged in connection with an armed robbery at a Dollar General store in Longs.

Joseph D. Hemingway, 36, was arrested Tuesday, without incident, according to the Horry County Police Department.

Hemingway was taken to the Horry County Detention Center, where he faces charges of armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The arrest came after photos were released of Hemingway.  

Friday, January 2, at around 8 p.m., officers responded to the Dollar General off of Highway 905 in Longs.

According to the report, the suspect entered Dollar General, grabbed a pack of cookies, and went to the front to check out. The suspect pulled a gun on the employee and got away with an undetermined amount of cash. 

A K-9 unit responded to the scene and was able to track the suspect to a mobile home park. Police said it appeared the suspect left in a vehicle.
