Man taken to hospital following barricade situation in Surfside Beach

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A man has been taken to a hospital after he barricaded himself inside a duplex on South Cedar Drive, said Lt. Hofmann with the Surfside Beach Police Department. Criminal charges will be forthcoming, according to Police Chief Rodney Keziah.

Police responded to the duplex after shots were fired, according to Hofmann. Officials arrived at around 6 p.m. Friday.

More than three hours later, police were able to apprehend the man after he came out the duplex, Hofmann said.

Hofmann said the resources and help lent by the Horry County Police Department was pivotal in the situation.

Horry County police officers and other agencies assisted the SBPD.

Officials remained at the scene following the situation to gather evidence, Hofmann said.

The subject's identity will be withheld until formal charges are brought forth.
