CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - William Mattson's bond was denied in a bond hearing on Saturday. Mattson, 52, has been charged with criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, after reportedly assaulting his relative's girlfriend.
Mattson was arrested January 1 by the Conway Police Department and was taken to J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
The complainant, a 27-year-old relative of Mattson, told police he found his girlfriend and Mattson in the bed. The complainant told police he repeatedly struck Mattson through the house, until he was outside.
Mattson told police he and the victim were drinking together. According to the report, Mattson said "the victim was naked under her blanket, and he was fully clothed." The two began to hug and kiss before the complainant came home and began to strike him with a closed fist, Mattson told police.
"The detectives had spoken to the victim and had instructed me the victim states the encounter was not consensual," an investigator stated in the police report.
The complainant will not be charged because he was acting in defense of the victim, said Lt. Selena Small.
The next scheduled court appearance will be on March 20. according to officials at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
