MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF)
– Mullins sophomore guard Jalek Felton gave a verbal commitment to the University of North Carolina this week at the Beach Ball Classic after talking with Roy Williams.
“I met with Coach Williams, and decided it was time,” Felton said. Williams was in town to check out some more of the talent at the Classic this week.
Felton is a top ten sophomore in the country according to several recruiting websites. His uncle, Raymond Felton also went to North Carolina. Raymond is a Latta native and a current member of the Dallas Mavericks.
He also has made a name for himself at the Beach Ball Classic this week. In Mullins' second game of the tournament against Myrtle Beach, Felton poured in 51 points, which is the second-highest point total in a single game in the classic – one point behind Luke Kennard of Franklin (OH), who scored 52 earlier in the week. Kennard is a Duke commit.
He is third place in Beach Ball Classic scoring for a single, three-game tournament. Felton had 113 points this week, which is behind Mike Bibby (118 points in 1995) and Kobe Bryant (117 in 1995).
