ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) - The Robeson County Sheriff's office is still trying to figure out what exactly led to a murder this past Friday night.
The incident happened in Orrum at the Williams Convenience Store off Highway 130, police said.
People in the nearby neighborhood say they heard gunshots coming from the convenience store at around 11 p.m.
Some say they saw and heard assault rifles, but Robeson County Sheriff Kenneth Sealy says he cannot comment on weapons at this time. He can confirm that Fairmont resident Jimmy Powers died as a result of the shooting.
Two other victims are listed in the incident report from that night, their conditions are unknown at this time.
Deputies know one victim worked at the convenience store, they are still investigating how the other two were involved in the incident.
The crime is the 34th murder in Robeson County this year.
Sheriff Sealy says until this year, the county was on a downward trend for murder cases, and last year, the department saw only 17 murders.
He says you can't predict murders so it's hard to tell why this year is so different than the past few.
As for this case, the sheriff's office says it needs the public's help. The department is still trying to learn more details. If you have any information, call 910-671-3100?.
