HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Binge drinking may not be something you worry about but doctors say it's a very real threat, particularly over the holiday season; so much so, that it's got its own term.

Doctors say anything more than four or five drinks in a two hour period is considered binge drinking and can cause holiday heart syndrome.

Local liquor stores say the last few days they have been busy with customers looking to stock up on their favorite spirits for tomorrow. If these beverages help you get into the holiday spirit, doctors have a warning.

While your family assembles by the tree singing carols it's not uncommon to have a glass or two of eggnog or your favorite holiday drink, but if you have three, four or more, you're binge drinking.

Doctors don't necessarily want you to hold off on the spirits all together, but recognizing the difference between having one and having one too many could save you a trip to the emergency room.

Several people who live on the side streets of Ocean Blvd. in North Myrtle Beach recently received a letter saying they need to get rid of obstructions in front of their homes. The city says that’s because the space could be used for public parking. Around 30 people came out to the city council meeting on Monday to speak out about the issue.
