HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - More than 200 pets have homes for the holidays. The Horry County Animal Care Center exceeded its goal to place 200 cats and dogs into homes for the month of December.

The “Home for the Holidays” campaign began December 1 and lasts through the last day of the month.

The goal was met through adoptions, reclaim to owners, and partnerships with local rescue shelters, said Elder Hucks, supervisor at the Animal Care Center.

Recently, the care center worked with PetSense in Conway to offer off-site adoption services, through Sav-A-Pet events. In addition, the care center worked with All for Paws animal shelter. Hucks said the partnering with the two groups has been beneficial to the animals, new owners, care center and all involved.

Tuesday, All for Paws donated $4,000 worth of beds, blankets and pet supplies to the care center. The shelter took 31 animals from the care center to place them in homes for the holidays. Hucks said over the holiday season, the care center closes, so finding homes for the animals sooner is best.

At last count, Tuesday, there were 48 dogs up for adoption at the shelter, Hucks said. "We've never had this few," he said.

If you're interested in adopting, dogs are $50 and cats are $25. The price includes vaccinations.

Adoptees are located at 1923 Industrial Park in Conway. Technicians can be reached at 843-915-5172.

Several people who live on the side streets of Ocean Blvd. in North Myrtle Beach recently received a letter saying they need to get rid of obstructions in front of their homes. The city says that’s because the space could be used for public parking. Around 30 people came out to the city council meeting on Monday to speak out about the issue.
