FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A Florence man has been charged with torturing animals.
Bobby Leonard, 34, turned himself into Florence officials Sunday after an animal control officer received a call about two pit bulls at Leonard's residence, police said.
The officer visited the home on Howard Street Wednesday. The officer noted two pit bulls were chained in the yard. One of the dogs was malnourished and had an infected eye, the report states. Numerous nails were sticking through the roof of the other dog house, which made for hazardous conditions, the officer said.
The officer issued a warrant for Leonard. The dogs were taken to the animal shelter, confirmed Major Raines with the Florence Police Department.
Leonard is out of jail after posting bond.
