Woman shoots, kills boyfriend after argument, Florence Police say

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – Police say a woman shot and killed a man after they got into an argument early Thursday morning in Florence.

The deceased victim was identified as 25-year-old Travis D. Francis of Florence, by county coroner Keith von Lutcken.

Shanasia Unique Garland, 23, was identified as the suspect, and is being charged with murder as well as possession of a weapon during violent crime, Florence Police's Major Carlos Raines said.

The shooting occurred at a residence on West Marion Street, Major Raines said.

Francis' family said Garland was Francis' fiance and the two had been together for five years. They said he helped take care of Garlands' six-year-old daughter.

"They fuss and stuff like every couple do that, but she didn't have to kill my brother," said Latice Francis, the victim's sister. "She could've walked out of the relationship if she didn't want to be with him."

Francis was one of five siblings. His sisters remember him as a fun-loving guy.

"He was my other half like my twin," said Jessica Francis. "Everything I went through he was there to comfort me and I was there for him."

Funeral arrangements have not been announced yet.
