Tourist claims winning lottery ticket from Thanksgiving in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A North Carolina man is $200,000 richer after winning the top prize in the South Carolina Education Lottery Thanksgiving Day drawing, according to lottery officials.

The man's Palmetto Cash 5 ticket for Thursday's drawing matched all five numbers drawn to win the $100,000 top prize, but since he “Powered-Up” for an additional $1, the $100,000 top prize was doubled to $200,000.

The lucky winner said he plans to visit the Myrtle Beach area more often after claiming his winnings on Monday.

For selling the claimed ticket, Murphy USA at 10826 Kings Road in Myrtle Beach received a commission of $2,000.

Proceeds from every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery are returned to the state in the form of funding for education, prizes, retailer commissions, and payment to contractors for goods and services, according to a release.
