Myrtle Beach has named John Pedersen as the next city manager. He has been with the city for many years and is familiar with the challenges that the community faces, especially Memorial Day weekend.
Here at WMBF News we do our best to promote people from within the station. If they have done a good job and have proven that they are ready for new challenges they deserve a shot at taking on more responsibility. We are familiar with their work ethic and they understand our culture and how we operate. That's obviously a similar advantage that John Pederson had over the other city manager finalists.
With so much attention on city leaders and how they plan to manage next year's Memorial Day weekend event, it is critical for the new manager to quickly engage in the planning. With his experience from past events he should have a good understanding of what went right and what went wrong. It will most likely be his first big test in this new role and hopefully it will not be a repeat of 2014.
Good luck Mr. Pedersen and congratulations on your promotion.
