HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - For three years the Old Bull and Bush Pub and Eatery off Highway 17 has dealt with traffic cones and construction crews, but soon all those growing pains will be a thing of the past.
Construction on the backgate bridge is finally starting to wrap up.
"Oh thank god it's finally done," exclaimed Sinead McGann, a server at the pub.
McGann has worked at the pub for two years, and for that whole two years, the road outside her workplace has always been a mess of construction.
Now with construction wrapping up, she says she'll never have to answer confused phone calls from people who don't know how to get to the pub through the maze of cones.
"Now and then we get a few phone calls from people who aren't from the area and need to know how to access," McGann said.
She says not only will the end of construction help people find them, but it will increase their visibility. Before, drivers couldn't see their sign until right before they passed it, but now cars will be elevated on top of the bridge.
That view from higher up makes it much easier to notice the pub.
"It means a lot because it's new business and there's more people coming through and more people will see this place so it will be great," McGann said.
While the growing pains aren't completely done, McGann is excited they are coming to an end. Starting on the 28th, both bridges will be completely open.
Then landscaping should continue into next year.
