Man charged with murder after shooting during drug deal, police say

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – One person is dead after a shooting during a drug deal Saturday morning.

Myrtle Beach police responded to the 100 block of Cherokee Street at 2:35 a.m. where a man was found lying on his back with blood coming from his chest due to a gunshot wound, according to the police report.

Horry County Coroner Tamara Willard confirmed that Stephen Skinner, 34, of Asheville, NC was killed.

Furman Coy Knight, 20, of Myrtle Beach was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center early Tuesday morning for murder in connection with the incident, according to Myrtle Beach police. 

Cell phone data records confirmed that Knight met with Skinner for the purpose of purchasing narcotics, according to the arrest warrant. 

During the encounter, a physical altercation occurred resulting in Knight shooting Skinner in his upper torso. 

Knight is currently being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Facility awaiting bond which will be conducted by a Circuit Court Judge.
