HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Construction on the backgate bridge is finally starting to wrap up.
Contractors will shift traffic on the southbound bridge of the new US17 Bypass/SC707 Interchange on Monday, October 20 at 8 p.m. It will take nearly three days to complete the shift for the bridge.
The shift is expected to be finished on Wednesday, October 22, at 6 a.m. Expect night time closures on October 21 and 22, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
While the shift was originally scheduled to begin on Sunday night, crews required an additional day to prep for the transition, according to county spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier.
There will also be a shift on the northbound bridge. This shift will begin on Sunday, October 26, at 8 p.m. and is expected to be completed on Tuesday, October 28, at 6 a.m., if the weather permits.
Motorists can expect lane closures northbound on US17 Bypass from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on October 26 and 27.
This project will be substantially completed in November of 2014.
Landscaping will continue into 2015.
