Dillon man named murder suspect in grandfather's death

DILLON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Officials charged a Dillon man with several crimes, including murder on Monday.

The Dillon County Sheriff's Office charged Jimmy F. Watson, 27, with murder, possession of a weapon during violent crime, armed robbery and grand larceny for the killing of Clyde H. Monahan.

The suspect Jimmy Watson, is Clyde Monahan's grandson, according to Cliff Arnett, Dillon County Sheriff's Office. Monahan's body was found Saturday off Pittman Lane in Dillon, according to the sheriff's office. Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley said Monahan died from massive hemorrhaging caused by a wound.

Watson also allegedly stole the victim's car and other items."My heart goes out to his family because he was an elderly man and he has no business laying somewhere dead and no one knows what happened to him," Talisha Swindler with Dillon County told WMBF News.

Investigators with the Dillon County Sherriff's Office and the State Law Enforcement agency are trying to figure out the details. The investigation is ongoing.

Sunday night, while riding a 4-wheeler through the woods off Pitman Lane, 92-year-old Clyde Monahan was found lying dead.

Investigators aren't saying much about this case, but they are saying evidence found near the body point to the fact that Monahan was murdered.

An autopsy is being done on Monahan's body to determine how he was killed. The results should be revealed later this week.

But, people in this community say, as a whole, they are seeing more violence.

"There is always someone getting killed, getting shot," Swindler said.

In September, two people were murdered in Dillon County in separate shootings.

Arrests were made in those cases, but still people are calling for greater law enforcement presence and community support to help curb violence.

"Something should be done about like some type of community center. It takes people to build a community and it take people to help keep that community happy and clean," said Swindler,

Jimmy Watson is currently in custody at the Dillon County Detention Center.
